Nearly 15,000 have signed the Bod Squad Petition that we started in 2009. It was all done in an effort to present a petition to both the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the Apparel and Footwear Manufacturer's Association with motivation to be more aware of what they create and market, and how it effects our daughters. As a result Women’s Wear Daily, the global “bible” of the fashion industry, and USA Today will covered our efforts, and told the entire fashion world.
Recently Dannah Gresh, was featured on K-Love Radio, which reaches more than 5 million listeners internationally. She spoke more about modesty and the Modesty Project, listen to the four minute podcast here.
The effort ended with "Shop Til You Drop" in October, nearly 28,000 moms and daughters participated.

As a part of our effort to send a message, we chose not to ban anything. Instead, we want to stay positive. So, we selected four retailers to "thank" by shopping there in October 2009 together! Those who signed the petition nominated over 100 stores and then voted to select these four. Our panel felt they met the criteria of...
- 1) Consistently offering age-appropriate clothing for its target market.
- 2) Providing a clean, family friendly environment.
- 3) Creating fun and trendy looks.
The winners are:
- Gap Kids
- Old Navy
- Lands End (available locally at Sears)
- Children's Place
The Modesty Project
By request, we are continuing the effort. Moms have said they want to shop again and want to keep creating positive peer pressure among moms to buy modest clothing for our daughters. So, we're establishing The Modesty Project. More about it will appear soon at a dedicated website, until then...we intend to continue to collect signatures and update you about new efforts that send positive messages to moms and the fashion industry.

We believe that the fashion industry is pressuring little girls to grow up too fast! The findings of two years of study by an APA (American Psychological Association) task force state that clothing, which makes girls appear older, and the associated marketing efforts are linked to eating disorders, low self-esteem, and depression. Ironically, this early sexualization presented to young girls also has “negative consequences on girls’ ability to develop healthy sexuality.” We would like to request that industry leaders send a message to the fashion industry that we want to purchase age-appropriate clothing for our little girls and would like the fashion industry to evaluate the clothing they design and the messages they send to our girls through advertising.
